Folk at the Proke
The Proke, or to give it its proper name St Mary’s Parochial Church Hall, Batley is a folk musicians club. It meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month.
Keith Brown, our organiser and musical lead is musical lead for the Proke too.
Many of the tune sets played at this session are taken from the BBC’s Virtual Session from the BBC Radio2 Virtual Session home page Virtual Session (BBC Radio 2). The site provides links to recordings of tune sets that are played at a sensible speed and also gives access to printed copy with chords of the tunes played. The idea being that people could practice the tunes at home whilst joining in with the virtual session and then, if necessary bring “the dots” with them to the next session.
The evening starts prompt at 8pm. Artists at all levels are encouraged to come and have a good tune with us. Entry level musicians are always welcome.
Current Tune Sets include: 1. Rakes of Mallow, Peg Ryans 2. Little Maggie in the Wood, Soldiers Joy 3. Rose in the Heather, Connaught Mans Rambles, The Kesh 4. The Galway, Boys of Bluehill, Harvest home 5. Silver Spear, Merry Blacksmith, Sally Gardens 6. The Rambling Pitchfork, Out on the Ocean, Boys of Ballymote 7. Shoe the Donkey, Sonny’s Mazurka 8. Little Diamond Polka, Murroe Polka, Maids of Ardath (Toomore No 2) 9. John Doherty’s Mazurka, Vincent Cambell’s Mazurka |
